if i am super rich...

i will blow a cool half a million singapore dollars on a gorgeous Cranchi Atlantique 40 and spend 4,000 monthly on docking fees alone.

dreams...

in paradise

goodbye for now, singapore!

beautiful cloudless day

i have been so so good at doing nothing-ness, and the weather and perfect clear skies were too good to be true for my little getaway last week... looking forward to the new year eve's party and get-together, and yet another sunny salty sea paradise rendezvous before the new year's work begins :)

and as of now, i have 587 personal pics and 231 new product pics.... waiting to be edited........

too many sweet distractions to work...

yep. there are simply too many sweet distractions for me to concentrate on work! even if it's like the crazy year-end holidays, which doesn't help at all. so anyhoo... i've been leaving many of the work responsibilities to my dependable (most times... haha) fairies and elves. been way too busy to be online either, other than to get work done. sorry cute folks! meeting up with and socialising with some of littleoddforest's most regular clients here in singapore has been pretty awesome, thank you cute peeps for such great times! :) and i've just restocked our shelves over at isetan scotts this morning. so go check it out before we check out from there! 24th dec! ;)

i simply can't can't can't wait!!! for the year-end getawaysssss. you got that right, plural! ;D and for 2009 to be here soooonnnnn!!! can't wait can't wait!!! *jump jump hop hop skip skip* weeee!!! i'm super excited and happy!! although some people (you know who, mao!) are just very stressed. well. everyone copes with new endeavors differently. ha.

but yes. how can i possibly force myself to have the time to be here to put up a post, if there's nothing to bitch about! lol!
http://www.eightyonedesign.co.uk/blog/2008/09/why-does-everyone-think-they-are-a-graphic-designer/
yes.
why on fucking earth does everyone think they are a graphic designer. or "designer" even.
good article. and read the comments too. thanks for sending me this article, meredith! i can't tell you how good it feels to know that there are plenty of people out there reading my heart and mind... i miss those days when we (me and my proper graphic designer friends) have bitching sessions about bad taste and people who think they are such godly designers.i think i am entitled to some ego since my art design degree didn't come cheap. hahahaha go ahead and slap me for my cockiness.

i totally agree that a design education does not mean you are some godly designer either. but like the article states, you have to at least have a certain amount of technical and theoretical knowledge to back up your creative ability (if you had any to begin with). otherwise, it's just going to be good ideas & bad execution, or great execution and stinky poo design!!

i hate it when the exact same people who can't tell a good font from a bad font, a print font from a web font, take on graphic design jobs, perpetuate the bad taste with their bad taste clients, and charge dirt cheap rates. i guess not everyone understands that when you pay peanuts you get monkeys. because they can't tell which is monkey and which is not. urgh. my dad used to be in the timepieces business (watches and clocks), and as a kid, i used to question him on some of his purchases (yes, i might have been opinionated bitch since a kid.), those gawddamn ugly watches! eewww! and his very comical reply was
"dada, there will always be people with bad taste in this world. and we want to earn their money too."
wahahahahhahah!!!

just because you have the moolah to buy photoshop and a macbook pro, does not mean you a graphic designer and are allowed to create atrocities with fonts and images. photoshop is a pixel-based program meant for photos, not vector-based for proper illustrations. don't you just love it how everyone is so photoshoppy nowadays. yes yes yes, we know you have photoshop. but do you know how to use it? dang it.

last week, someone approached yet another friend again this time, who does freelance illustrations, to do some serious graphic design work. and again, i'm so proud that mh is a friend of mine. because he actually rejected the good-paying job offer, telling the client that he is able to do all the illustrations needed for the project, but not the main graphic design and font work as he is not qualified to do it, and recommended another of our friend, a properly trained designer to do the job. even with the client's insistence that he trusts my illustrator's friend good tastes. a gazillion kudos to you, mh! or your principles and integrity :) although i have to agree that you are most probably able to do a good job if you had taken it on ;)

so, the question is, are you a software executer, a graphic/web design prostitute, or a graphic/web designer?

gotta go catch some sun at the pool now! it's been so rainy!! i think i might be growing mould.
*muacks!*

add-on~
oh oh oh! i forgot to give thanks!!!! big big big thanks to all of you super duper awesome peeps who made your way down to fashbash @ cathay and sweated it out there shopping!! well. i know i was sweating. i apologise for the spectacle of me serving your needs while holding on to my hand-held piggy fan. hahahahah
you all made the sweating so worth it though :)))) xoxoxoxo!!

Luv-able + Hug-able is now open!

from gallery hanahou~

"Love was in the air and hugs abounded at the opening last Thursday. Plenty of people made it out despite the drizzly weather, and we're happy to say that many of your plushes have found new homes, both to people who have visited the gallery and to people visiting the online shop.

Joining us at the opening were plush makers Jenny Harada, Nicole Gastonguay, Anna Hrachovec, Katie Park (all the way from North Carolina!) and Ossu! Syugeibu (all the way from Japan!). Thank you so much to those who made it!

The show has also received some great press, most notably a full-page feature in Time Out New York last week!

Luv-able + Hug-abel will run until January 7th, so we hope you'll continue to refer your fans to us until then!"

slight delays in shipping orders

Dearest LOF customers,

We are experiencing a 1 to 2-day backlog in sending out paid orders within the promised 2 business days, due to the bulk of orders to be processed and packed during this hectic period and a lack of hands. Which means all orders will take up to 4 days to be shipped out. We are trying our best to stagger shipments on a first come first out basis, so not all orders will take that long to go out, most orders will still promptly ship out in the promised 2 business days. Very very sorry for the delays! Please feel free to drop us an email if you wish to upgrade your registered shipping to Express. Thanks so much for bearing with us during this time! :)

luv,
Yvette

sweaty dusty mothball-smelly me

some of you may already know that adding on to our already too-much-t0-handle madness this year-end , is the fact that we're moving out from our current tiny storage space to a nice new clean airy place next year. woohoo! so in addition to all the usual ton of work i have to do, i have added on a new hat ---> manual laborer ( -_____- ")

we (well, mostly it was just me...) have been digging, packing, cleaning, sweating, cursing, sniffing oohhing, and wowing away. other than the muscles built (comparable to my game of tennis) and new veins bulging, we have discovered so so so much hidden treasures, some all the way back from 3-4 years ago, our first few designs of purses, pouches, bags and tank tops!!! wahahahah!!!!! as i scrutinize the design, sewing and the pattern cutting of the long-ago thingies i made, i can't help but give big smiles because i think we have come a long long way since those days :)

just 1 example from the many scenerios...
long long time ago, well, like 3 years ago :p i totally knew i made like 20pcs of that purse, but somehow, i sold only 16, and then the remaining 4pcs... went into some black hole and could never be found.... until a few days ago. laying quietly hidden in one of the big plastic boxes in the warehouse... wahahahah!!!! funny!!!! some of my most regular customers would have had first-hand experience with our inventory tardiness. oopps.

to cut the story short... because time waits not for dada... i will hoard stuff no more, so expect a treasure trove full of awesome handmade goodness from our past seasons' collections for all you recessionistas out there at our stall 15 @ fashbash part 2, our last outing this year. for reals.

sneaky peakies :

fashbash part 2 sneaky peakies
as usual
- sample sales (items that were used as samples/ displays at tradeshows and exhibitions overseas) i have more this time round because i just fired one of our agents and had to get an acquaintance to sorta force her to ship everything back to me. ha.
- prototype designs/ designs that did not make it into our main collection - i have finally caved in and decided to bring in a bunch of these which i made but changed my mind about later.
- new items with very minor flaws
- and etc. etc. some accessories (brooches), plush toys, and home decor items.

so what's different this time round?
- only clearance items from past seasons' collections will be available, all the way from our very 1st season's collection, what we first made when we started out 3-4 years ago. woo! freshly dug out by moi.
- more than half of the stuff that will be there, were not available at our previous fashbash stint.
- and those that we are bringing back again this time will be on even better discounts.
- many of the past-collection purses i'm bringing there are 1-piece only, once gone, gone forever.
- if you missed some of our first few seasons' tank tops, you better come early too. because i'm 110% sure now that i have no where else to magically dig them out from.
- a crazy stockist decided that she ordered some wrong items and we were forced to do an exchange for her since we state in our contract that no good items will be refunded for, even when the items were clearly made specially for her wholesale order. so she shipped 12 purses back to us BUT without their detachable straps. no explanations given. i bet she ate them all.
- all has to go. i need more space more than that little profit we're getting from the huge discounts, if any at all.

there's sure to be something for everyone. if you're on a tight budget this year-end, but need to get your hands on some precious handmade colorful fabric goodness, and don't really care that they are not fresh out of the oven, this is the one and only best place and time to come shoppity shop for some littleoddforest goodies, as precious gifts for yourself and your buddies. come join in the shopping, chatter and mindless banter! or regret forever. and come early! have you even seen the fashbash swag bags??? only 200 to be given away!!! that's reason enough i think.

a big heyho! to the few dudes who wiped out almost all of our tank tops at our last fashbash for your gal pals (i wonder who those lucky girls are!)! you all have been so kickass awesome supportive during our last fashbash in october, that many of you were hankering us for some purses that were already sold out there forever. but that was then. since i have now found 1 more piece of that and that sold out pouch and more! ha! come again this time, we'll make sure you won't regret it! come help me clean out my storage space. so that i can make space to whip out many many more new goodies for you all for next year and many more years! and so that i can stop being a manual laborer, that is, until, our big move(s) next year. yikes.

delays in new collection mini-launch

due to overwhelming response to our private viewings for our mini-launch of our new collection, i had to delay the launch online and over at our counter at isetan scotts, until out last private viewing session is over, on saturday 13 dec. so the launch online and over at isetan is scheduled to be on monday 15 dec. littleoddforest's last day at isetan scotts will be on christmas eve 24 dec, so you'll still have many more days to shop there yah! it's such a waste of time and effort to delete already-taken/edited photographs of the new designs when they are being snapped up every other day at our tiny tiny workshop...

don't worry ya all! there will still be enough new stuff to go around for the rest of the year! don't send me sobbing or hate emails, please! thank youuuuu! group hugs!

i've stuff to bitch about! some friends who already know what had happened had advised me against blabbing about it here, so i had already ranted in my private blog, but it's just bugging me day in day out.. anyways, i already had the ranting posts saved in drafts in this blog few weeks ago, had to get the shiat out of my system asap, because it's all poison. bad for my happy well-being. large corporations and work politics. you can kiss my sharp ass. we'll see if i chicken out of posting them up later. i have like, a gazillion drafts that i had decided not to post eventually, over the years. i'm such a 'BAWK!! bawk! bawk! bawk! bawk! bawk!.... ' wahahahah!
