Oct. 6th-Nov. 2nd
Opening night oct. 6th
Schmancy Toys | Plush You Blog | Plush You Flickr
featuring 100 plush artists who have submitted up to 3 works each!

you absolutely have to go visit if you're nearby! littleoddforest is one of the participants and our woody-san and treeling plush are showing there, together with a whole load of other talented artists/plush-makers! sadly, we are unable to be there..

but anyways, one of the few rad plush artists i admire most! - snaggs - took this photo of woody-san at the show (i think she got this one for herself)

she creates such wonderful colorful pieces, the details, oh my gawd, and some of the themes are hilarious! very very fun, never failed to awe me.

and be sure to check out mariannes's work, creator of oneye, from the netherlands. she has managed to create a ton of fun and interesting charaters for her oneye plush!

and of course there are many many other talented artists, some of the more familiar ones like mypapercrane, aimee ray, blobby farm, and many other unfamiliar ones which we need to see more of!

we love plush! weeeee (*_*)

craft: magazine preview

all thanks to awesome marie of the sampler! i was one of the lucky few who was given the opportunity to check out an advance copy of the launch issue of Craft: magazine. i didn't know what to expect since i haven't been reading much of other journals in the community recently

firstly, hats off to the designers - the design and layouts of both the print magazine and its website are really well done, very visually captivating, easy to read, but not dull boring layouts. very beautifully filled pages. very visually similar to Make magazine, since it's done by the same group of peeps, yes? reminds me of our magazine projects in college, this is not an insult, maybe they won't think it's a compliment either, but i say this because everything is very neat and very design-textbook-followed, and also, they have achieved zero typography design mistakes! which many magazines out there have... messy typography which would have made our design instructor puke blood.. tsk tsk

content-wise, it is okay average, not too bad, but nothing super fantastic, it's like deja-vous as it seems that i've read about many of the featured artists/crafters, projects, and some other articles in the other indie-supporting mags like bust and readymade. just like readymade and make mag, it has achieved the goal of steering "craft" away from the dull boring traditional crafts and craft mags, the projects featured were fascinating and fun, but most of them were more fun to read about or to look at, nothing i would want to do myself. so is it just another one of those hip-looking craft mags? i don't know. it certainly is filled with projects, but many of them feels more like artsy/techy frivolous projects than practical craft projects which i assume more people would be interested in?

but anyways, i think that as a launch issue, it's job is nicely well done, the future issues may be kick-ass for all we know. the stitch robots featured on its cover now would have made it for me to want to pick it up from the magazine shelf.

typhoon xangsane in the philippines

"In Laguna, the PNRC chapter reported that 31 people had died in floods and a landslide as of September 30, 2006. At least 3,283 houses are destroyed and another 8,768 damaged."

one of the things i have been super busy and stressed with in 2006 has been the setting up of a small home cottage workshop in the philippines, where auntie millie is, and we have successfully trained a main sewer who has since also learnt how to cut patterns, 1 main sewing assistant, and 2 learning apprentices. we have provided these non-high-school graduates, who would otherwise have been jobless and living in poverty in the countryside, with a means of livelihood, a skill, a full-time proper-paying job, and a home.

i drowned my sorrows last friday night with b and 2 close friends who were the only ones who understood what i do and have been doing, because i was woken up by an early 6am morning phone call on friday, that the house we had rented as the workshop and living quarters for them, has been entirely flooded by the typhoon. my brand new computer there is now a goner. 2 brand new industry sewing machines in water, and my brand new delivery van is now under repair. power has been out for 5 days, still out most of the day now, and will reportedly be full restored only after 3 weeks... no electricity, no nothing. my mum has strongly advised me to buy a power generator, so i guess i'm getting one soon. i can tell that she feels very stressed and disappointed for me as well, but has told me to be strong and continue with what i have to do... i've tried to perk up over the weekend, occupying myself with stuff... it's getting harder as the shit piles up, and more and more business people decide to owe me money, and things like paypal screws up when it's not supposed to... sometimes i just feel like giving up and not put up a smiley front all the time... i'm just saying all these now, i'm leaving to re-stock littleoddforest merchandise at the esplanade shop an hour from now, and i'll be all 'smiles', again.... :(

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/world/4223578.html

another storm on the way while power is still not fully restored... power generator not there yet... sewers are upset as we have just spruced up the place a few months ago after the 2 new apprentices moved in....

thanks for all your kind regards, i'm really touched by all your emails and phonecalls.. i'm fine, just not very verbal about sad stuff, i can type it out okay, but am really bad at saying it or showing it on my face.. so please forgive me for not knowing what to say over the phone and over dinner today...

a lunch date

i had a nice little lunch date last saturday, with a littleoddforest regular customer cum sms friend cum bitching partner, mandy or demightyshiva as she likes to be called, heh

she would be the third customer-friend person (that sounds gawd damn awful! i don't know how else to call it. haha) whom i've gone out with, since she has blogged about it, i have to as well!! no, it's because she's so freaking nice! in a sarcastic har-har kinda way, but nice. you can tell.

she baked me yummy mini-muffins!!! (she's yellow-skined mini mandy martha stewart, you know) i shared it with b, lana, s and gang and they all ate with envy.

she got me sweet little presents as well, knowing how much i miss chicago and love cats (she abhors them, though not nearing anywhere at all to shedding any kitty blood), she got me lovely kitty magnets from the museum shop while in chicago on holiday, how thoughtful of her!! and yes, evil her got me potbelly's freebie fridge magnet as well, still attached to their menu?? that's not so nice of her as it was hell imagining the smell but not being able to have any!?? see, the evil nice kinda person she is :p

it's nice to know you, kinda freaky though, what with the number of coincidences we share... primary schools, ex-colleagues, friends.... and for the last time, i'm not puny. petite is the word. and you're not very large either! hahaha aren't you shorter?? heh. and yes, wine makes my tummy churn, even with food. i'm a hard liquor, beer kinda girl. drinking session next time yah? :p

paypal problems

Dearest littleoddforest shoppers,

It has come to our attention that many of you have recently tried to place an order with us and make payment via Paypal unsuccessfully. We're really terribly sorry about this!!!

This is a Paypal glitch, and is no fault of ours, our email and business information are all valid and verfied! It has been frustrating, and Paypal is supposedly still trying to solve this payment problem now.

We do not wish for you to have an unhappy experience shopping at littleoddforest, so this is what we propose to solve this problem -

If you'd still very much like to go through with your orders, do reply to this email with your order details - Item/ Specifications/ Quantity, and also your Name and Shipping Address.

We are able to manually send you a Paypal invoice for you to make payment for your orders.

Sincere apologies for this hassle, thanks so much for your kind understanding and hope to hear back from you soon!

xoxoxo!
